Giorgio Bettinelli was born in Crema (Lombardy) on June, the 15th 1955, he graduated in literature at the University of Rome, he worked in theatre as an actor and musician, but his true passion has always been travelling; when he was just 14 years old he did his first journey alone from Milan to Copenhagen by hitch-hiking, followed 3 years later by the visit to Bombay after going through Eastern Europe, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan by trains and buses.
He became famous for the venture that everyone remembers: Rome-Saigon in one go on a Vespa 125, 24.000 km on two wheels with just a packet of cigarettes and a guitar.
From that moment on he kept on travelling. Two more journeys: from Alaska to Patagonia (between ’94 and’95) and from Melbourne to Cape Town, 52.000 km from ’95 and ’96. Bettinelli published reportage of his journey on the Italian magazines “Tuttomoto” and “In moto”, on the newspaper “L’Unità” and on the houseorgans of Piaggio and Fiamm. On the road he was filmed by: CNN in Anchorage (7 minutes of special report), Discovery Channel in Kathmandu (15 minutes) and by many national and local TVs in 134 nations of 5 continents; radio interviews were even more and 634 were the interviews released to newspapers.
On the road he learnt 6 languages as well: English, Indonesian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and French. Of course a 7th should be added: Italian, his mother tongue. For the “Traveller” series edited from Feltrinelli he published “Brum Brum”, 254.000 km on a Vespa.
